At 12 years old, LUCY’s whole world has changed.

She has only ever known one home. But when her family was evicted and couldn’t secure new housing that allowed dogs, LUCY lost everything. And when she came to us, we learned she had never even seen a veterinarian ever in her life.

Her mouth was in terrible shape. She was missing most of her teeth, but the 8 remaining were completely rotten and had to be removed. We spayed her and removed the rotten teeth that had likely been causing pain for years. The first couple of days after surgery were brutal, but once she felt relief, it was like she was a different dog. For the first time in a long time, LUCY is comfortable.

The wonderful surprise? Her bloodwork is great for a senior dog and she’s heartworm negative and free of tick-borne illnesses.

LUCY is gentle, quiet, and incredibly sweet. She’s great with kids and has lived with cats her whole life. She had never met dogs before foster care, but she’s handled those introductions beautifully.

The world is very new to LUCY. She was never taken outside by her previous owner, so she needs a patient family who will let her explore the world at her own pace. A fenced yard would be ideal as she builds her confidence.

She is pee pad trained but will happily go potty outside when taken out (especially if she gets to go for a walk). She sleeps on her foster mom’s bed all night without accidents and loves car rides, happily “chatting” as she looks out the window.

LUCY is now mostly toothless and will need wet food (she’s currently enjoying Evanger’s Organic Beef). She’ll also need occasional grooming to tidy up her adorable little “Grinch feet.”

Most of all, LUCY needs a home where someone is often around. After losing the only life she knew, she gets lonely when left alone for long periods.

LUCY doesn’t ask for much — just a soft place to land, a gentle heart, and someone to love her for the rest of her days.

LUCY is ready for her second chance. She's being fostered in Waterbury, CT. If interested please submit an onine application to adopt a dog.

LUCY is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix and her DOB is 07.12.2014.
