Sweet MITTENS was a teen mom who was forced to survive and raise babies outside on her own. Lucky for MITTENS she is also very resourceful. She showed up at a Good Samaritan's door heavily pregnant and asking for help and they began feeding her and then brought her inside. She gave birth to 6 beautiful kittens on June 29th, 2024. The kittens have all been adopted and now it's MITTENS' turn to find her forever home.
MITTENS is the nicest cat! She is all about her people and wants to be your companion. If you work from home she will be your dedicated office assistant (or manager, depending on your needs). She will hang out with you on the couch and binge Netflix like a champ. She will also sleep in bed with you if you let her.
MITTENS is polydactyl with toes from here to eternity...
MITTENS IS PERFECT and deserves an amazing home. There is one very important issue though, that you need to be aware of. When MITTENS was first rescued, her mouth became severely swollen from what we thought was an abscess from an injury. What we now know is that she had eosinophillic granuloma complex that manifested in her mouth due to severe food allergies. Poor MITTENS is highly allergic to chicken, duck, and salmon, and is moderately sensitive to lamb, goat, and egg whites plus a whole bunch of other things that are common in cat food, and from the moment she was rescued she was eating the foods she was allergic too. Her mouth is better now, after the food change and a course of steroids.
The good news is that we now know this and have done all of the investigative work for you. We submitted a food sensitivities test so we know what MITTENS can and cannot eat. We have spent hours researching appropriate food options and scouring labels to compile a list of foods that MITTENS can safely eat. However, SHE CANNOT HAVE DRY CAT FOOD because they all contain allergens - either grains, cranberries or yeast (bakers and nutritional).
MITTENS is not allergic to beef, turkey, or fish (other than salmon and anchovies) so we are feeding her a combination of RAWGanics raw beef (1 cat medallion per meal) combined with a heaping spoonful of Tiki Cat (there are 7 flavors in the Grill Variety pack and she can eat all of them). We also have found some fish-based options in Applaws, Earthboon Holistics, and Soulistic and we will provide you with a list of the specific foods she can eat. For snacks we feed her the tuna-based Inaba Churus.
This isn't really a big deal if you are just looking to adopt a single cat. It only becomes an issue if you have other animals, and then you will need to either transition those animals onto a beef & fish (not salmon) diet or feed them separately. This includes dog food! If you have a dog who grazes all day on chicken- or salmon-based foods, then MITTENS won't be a good fit.
MITTENS currently lives in a foster home with 5 other cats and a 50 lb dog. She can be a food hog (another reason why the food transition for all animals is important) and she will do fine in a home with a friendly laid back cat or a cat-friendly dog, although if you are around a lot having another animal is not necessary.
MITTENS was born approximately 10.19.2023. She is spayed, vaccinated for rabies and negative for feline aids (FIV) and leukemia (FeLV). To adopt MITTENS please submit an online application to adopt a cat.
