Sheldon (Middletown)
SHELDON is a true testament to resilience and strength—a miracle dog who is lucky to be alive and is now looking for the family who will give him the love and security he so deserves.
On February 13th, we received a desperate call from the Waterbury Pound about a severely emaciated dog in urgent need of veterinary care. With no time to waste, we rushed him straight to the vet, where he weighed a shocking 7 lbs 4 oz—far below his ideal weight of 12-15 lbs. His condition was dire (his body index score was 1/10), he had frostbite on the tips of his ears and his bloodwork showed signs of extreme malnutrition.
It’s clear that SHELDON’s past has been filled with unimaginable neglect. He had been starved, abandoned, and left to fend for himself in the freezing cold. Thankfully, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan saw him and contacted Animal Control just in time.
SHELDON is approximately 2 years old, and despite everything he's been through, he’s a gentle and loving soul. He’s friendly, snuggly, and adores being around other dogs and cats. SHELDON will need a home with at least one other friendly dog to help him continue to build trust and feel comfortable. He’s also great with older children who are respectful and calm, as he can be a bit shy around new people and situations.
Because SHELDON can be skittish, we’re looking for a home with a secure, fully fenced yard—no gaps, no electric fences, please! A yard will give SHELDON the freedom to run and play fetch, which he absolutely loves. He’s also a big fan of car rides and going on walks, and we think he would shine in an agility class! Not only would it be fun for him, but it would help him build confidence and enjoy new experiences.
SHELDON is still on his road to recovery, and he’ll be returning to the vet at the end of March for repeat bloodwork to check on his progress. Once he’s gained a little more weight and everything looks good, we’ll proceed with his neuter and vaccinations.
While SHELDON isn’t quite ready for full adoption yet, he is available for a foster-to-adopt home! This allows him to settle in, get comfortable, and be loved while he completes his healing journey.
If you think you could be the loving, compassionate home SHELDON deserves, please submit an online application to adopt a dog. He’s currently in a foster home in Middletown, CT, and he can’t wait to meet the family who will help him start his new life.
Will you be the one to give SHELDON the happily ever after he’s been waiting for?
